Abdul Halim al-Attar is a Syrian refugee who was spotted selling pens in the streets of Beirut in order to survive and provide food and shelter for his family.

Recently, a photo of Abdul has gone viral on the Internet. A stranger captured Abdul selling pens while holding his daughter in his arms.

His daughter Reem sleeps on his should as he tries to convince and persuade passerbys to purchase his pens in the scorching heat.

The photo has touched and moved people’s hearts all around the world.

The picture was heartbreaking, and it was almost too much for many people to bear.

Thanks to this stranger – a Norwegian web developer named Gissur Simonarso, an online crowdfunding campaign was organized in order to raise money for Abdul and his family.

Since it was created, there has been an outpouring of support for Abdul.

The fund raised over $200,000.

Abdul is putting the money to good use. The 33-year-old has opened 3 businesses with the financial funding.

He first started a bakery, then he later opened a kebab shop and a smaller restaurant.

In a matter of a few days, Abdul became a business entrepreneur. He currently employs 16 Syrian refugees.

For the 1.2 million refugees registered in Lebanon, finding employment has been very difficult. The 16 Abdul hired feel fortunate and blessed for this opportunity.

Rather than keeping all the money raised for him, Abdul gave away some to friends and family members in Syria.

“Not only did my life change, but also the lives of my children and the lives of people in Syria whom I helped,” he says.

More importantly, Abdul has used the money to rent a 2-bedroom apartment. Here, he and his 4-year-old daughter Reem and 9-year-old son Abdullelah can enjoy a comfortable life with no worry about shelter.

One act of kindness by a random stranger has truly changed a man’s life forever.

This is a wonderful reminder that no act is too small to have an impact.
